The population number identified per settlement points to the strong fragmentation of the settlement structure. Of the 25,269 inhabitants of the district consisting of 47 settlements, 41.3% live in Körmend, the remaining 58.7% “share” in 46 settlements, with an average of 322 people, which is approximately 1/32 of the population of Körmend. In addition to Körmend, there are four settlements with more than a thousand inhabitants in the district (Csákánydoroszló, Egyházasrádóc, Nádasd, Őriszentpéter).

Transport conditions

The transport conditions of the Körmend district are contradictious. The approach to the district seat is considered good, but the road network of small settlements is suitable for large enterprises only with compromises.

Körmend, as the seat of the district, is located at the intersection of main roads 8 running East-West and 86 running North-South in road transport. National road 8 is an expressway in a westerly direction to the Austrian border, which practically functions as a bypass. From the 86 main road, the road branches off with main road 76 within the district, heading South-East towards Zalaegerszeg. Two larger settlements have a main road connection (Egyházasrádóc and Nádasd).

Rail transport

In terms of rail transport, Körmend is located on timetable line 17 connecting Szentgotthárd with Szombathely, with direct onward access to Sopron, Győr, Székesfehérvár and Budapest, which makes rail passenger and freight transport directly accessible in the Western and Northern directions.

Körmend, as the seat of the district, can be reached within 30 minutes by road and rail from Szombathely, the county seat of Vas County.
